4th Business Excellence Awards 2006
The 4th Business Excellence Awards held on October 5th, 2006 at the Nikko Hotel was
an outstanding success. The awards, held bi-annually, have grown considerably
since its inception in 2002. This year’s submissions far exceeded our
expectations, with the number of applicants nearly tripling!
The MCBC Business Excellence Awards were initially designed to recognize the
achievements and contributions of successful Canadian and Malaysian businesses
and individuals. MCBC also wanted to meet the gap created between “Small Medium
Enterprises” (SME) and larger organizations. However, the BEA also plays another
important role – that of serving as a channel for identifying potential business
opportunities in both Canada and Malaysia.
The challenge of selecting award recipients fairly, was based upon the
Criteria based on Canada’s Baldridge National Quality Program. A pre-selection
committee and a panel of judges that are linked to various industries in
Malaysia was chosen by MCBC. The selection process was also observed by Halim &
Lee, Chartered Accountants.
We were honoured to have the awards presented to the award recipients by the
Minister of International Trade and Industry Malaysia (MITI), YB Dato’ Seri
Rafidah Aziz and the Canadian High Commissioner, H.E. David G. Summers. The 470
attendees were not only treated to a unique video format of the individual
awards, but were entertained throughout dinner by the excellent group ASIKA,
known for their own unique brand of ‘world music’ .
